The University Institute for Galician Studies and Development (IDEGA) and the Economic and Social Council of Galicia have announced the 13th edition of the ‘Valentín Paz Andrade’ Research Award in Social Sciences and the Galician Economy. This annual award recognizes research that contributes to a better understanding of Galicia’s socioeconomic reality and to the design of policies that foster the well-being of its citizens.

The call for entries establishes two categories. The first is aimed at research papers published in scientific journals or by recognized publishing houses between October 15, 2025, and October 14, 2026. This category carries a cash prize of €2,000.

The second category is for doctoral theses presented at any university during the same period and carries a prize of €1,000.

Entries may be submitted in Galician, Spanish, English, or Portuguese.

The submission period is currently open and closes on November 6, 2026. Interested parties must submit their proposals to the IDEGA secretariat (between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.) or send them by mail to the following address: IDEGA – Avda. de las Ciencias, nº 2, Campus Vida, Santiago de Compostela. Documentation must include authorship details, the title, and publication or edition information, as well as a hard copy and an indication of how to access the resource electronically or a copy on USC-compatible media.

The jury will be chaired by the Rector of the USC and will be composed of the President of the Economic and Social Council of Galicia (CES) and the Director of IDEGA, who will act as secretary; a member of the IDEGA Scientific Council; a member of the Economic and Social Council; and three individuals with a distinguished track record in social science research in Galicia.

In evaluating the nominations, particular consideration will be given to the relevance of contributions to advancing knowledge of Galicia’s socioeconomic reality, as well as their impact on improving resource allocation, fostering growth and employment, and achieving greater equity.

The jury’s decision will be announced by December 18, 2026.
